2011 Old Farm Eagles Swim Team Info
Welcome to the 2011 Old Farm Swim Team season. We are swimming in “K” division of the Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL). To register for the team, follow this link to find the unified registration form for the swim and dive teams. The swim and dive teams will have a new swim suit style this year, and ordering will be available at the May 18th registration at Luxmanor ES (7:00 – 8:30 p.m.). Sizing suits will also be on-hand. (CHECK PAYMENT only and No credit cards.)
The fee this year is $100 per swimmer. However, we are offering a bundled discount if you also join the dive team, in which case the fee to join both teams is $175 (versus the normal $200). It is important to remember that the level of commitment is expected to be equal for each team if you join both. The fee is payable by cash or check. Practice begins on Tuesday, May 31st.
This year Gail Daumit Minsk, Jill Ray (240-654-7646) and Griff Lindsay (301.468.1683) are our swim team representatives to MCSL. Jay Matson will be our A Meet Manager, and Kathi Nardella is our B Meet Manager. We are looking for some assistant reps and welcome your getting involvesd in a leadership role. If you are interested please call or email Gail, Griff or Jill.
Home swim meets require about 20 parent volunteers from each team. We encourage all our parents to volunteer at every meet and to take the MCSL-sponsored training for Referee, Stroke & Turn Official or Starter. For more information on MCSL training, please contact Griff Lindsay, Jill Ray, Gail Daumit or check the MCSL website for dates and locations.
We look forward to the Old Farm Swim Club members continuing support of our team by volunteering at meets and cheering on the team. We are looking forward to a fun-filled season.
Eligibility
Any swimmer who is a member of Old Farm Swim and Paddle Tennis Club, and who has passed their swimmers test by swimming the length of the pool and treading water for one minute is eligible for the swim team. Swimmers can pass their test by asking a swim team coach or one of the lifeguards.
Those swimmers who do not qualify using the guidelines above may consider the OFP Pre-Team (Eaglets). This is a development squad for swimmers that want to improve their skills and learn competitive swimming (while getting comfortable in the water and still having fun). Pre-team instruction and meets make use of kickboards.
Coaches
Our head coach, Jordan Rivera, is returning for a third season with Old Farm. Jordan grew up swimming for MCSL at Flower Valley and was a member of the RMSC in Olney. He currently attends Providence College where he swims breast stroke. OFST graduate Erin Gatti will be returning for her second year as assistant coach. She currently attends JMU University. OFST veteran and graduating senior Jordan Ray returns for his third year of assistant coaching.
Fees
The cost to join the team is $100 per swimmer. The fee includes membership on the team, a team T-Shirt, and swim cap. However, for the first time ever, we are offering a bundled discount if you also join the dive team, in which case the fee to join both teams is $175 (versus the normal $200). The registration form can be downloaded and filled out. The PDF version allows you to complete the form electronically and then print it. If you missed the May 12th registration night, please contact Jill Ray or Griff Lindsay to tell them of your plans and get them the form.
2010 Swim and Dive Handbook
A handbook containing the swim season meet schedule, practice times, directions to away meets, important phone numbers and other useful information can be found on the resource page under swim team.
Family Folders / Envelopes
Each family will have an envelope (folder) in which award ribbons will be placed. This is usually kept in the guard shack. Please be sure and clean it out often.
Practices
Swimmers should attend as many practices as possible. Like everything, the more you practice the better you’ll be; however, there is no minimum number of practices that must be attended.
